PUBLISHER/EDITOR-IN-CHIEF/DESIGNER
Name: Theresa M. Lyons
Residence: Bridgewater, New Jersey
Married to: Louis C. Lyons, since 1993
Children: Shannon, Louie, and Sean
Education: College, four years in U.S. Marine Corps, and graphic design courses
Occupation: Owner of LyonsDen Inc., a firm specializing in publishing and fund-raising; Freelance Designer; Photographer
Hobbies: My children and outdoor photography.
Years in Ridgebacks: Since 1991.
Dogs owned: I currently live with a Ridgeback, Ch. Kimani's Hot Off The Press, CGC, ET ("Ryobi") and a Belgian Tervuren, DeHanna's Ain't Playin No Games ("Dog").

I also co-breed, co-own and show many other Ridgebacks under the Kimani Kennels prefix (www.Kimani.com). Including BISS Ch. Kimani's Lasting Impression (2006 RRCUS National Specialty Best in Specialty Show Winner) and Ch. Kimani's Aires Above the Ground, JC (2005 Westminster Kennel Club Best of Breed Winner; 2005 Number Ten Ridgeback; Multiple Group Winner; and 2006 RRCUS National Specialty Best of Opposite Sex Winner).

Affiliations: The Rhodesian Ridgeback Club of the United States, Orange Coast Rhodesian Ridgeback Club, Dog Writers Association of America and the New Jersey Hound Association.
About Me: I have been involved in the sport of dogs since 1990, when I began to show several breeds, including Golden Retrievers, Viszlas, Saint Bernards and, of course, Rhodesian Ridgebacks. In 1991, I met breeder-judge Alicia Mohr-Hanna of Kimani Kennels and soon found a passion for the Ridgeback that grows to this day. During my affiliation with Kimani Kennels, I have shown and championed several Ridgebacks, and have owned, co-owned and co-bred since 1994.

My name is perhaps most synonymous with The Ridgeback Register, celebrating its tenth anniversary in June of 2005. As its founder and sole owner, I consider the magazine a true labor of love, and the knowledge I have gained while producing it is immeasurable: With every photo I look at, every breeder I interview and every issue I print, I further educate myself on our wonderful breed.

Since we are all perpetual students of the breed, regardless of how many years of experience we have, I regularly attend Ridgeback- and breed-specific seminars, including, most recently, Pat Hastings' world-renowned workshop. I believe that in all facets of life, there is always room for growth.

I am the co-creator, with my mentor Alicia Mohr-Hanna, of "The Standard's Image - The Form and Function of The Rhodesian Ridgeback." This seminar, which we began work on more than eight years ago, has been presented at the Westminster Kennel Club, two RRCUS National Specialties, two Ridgeback World Congresses and several all-breed clubs.

In 2004, I had the honor of judging supported sweepstakes at the Long Island Kennel Club in New York, the Greeley Kennel Club in Colorado and the first annual Bay Area Rhodesian Ridgeback Club Regional Specialty in California. I believe judging is the art of finding balance - something I do every day in my work as a graphic designer and photographer. I was honored to be nominated for these prestigious assingments.

My clients often tell me I have an "eye" - for just the right pose that captures their dog's "best side," or for designing catchy, look-at-me ads. I love working with others to create a product we can both be proud of. At "doggie" events, you're likely to see me on the sidelines taking photos for the magazine. Come on over and say hello - I don't bite!

About Me: When I got my first Ridgeback almost a decade ago, I knew instantly that I had picked the right breed. Our hounds are smart, laidback, interested and interesting - just like many of the Ridgeback people I've had the pleasure of meeting over the years.

I love trying new activities with my Ridgebacks, especially those that showcase the breed's versatility. In addition to conformation and lure-coursing, we have done therapy-dog work and herding, and are training for the obedience and agility rings.

Other than my dogs, my other consuming interest is writing, and I've been fortunate to be able to make a living doing it.

I have been editing The Ridgeback Register for more than three years now, and it has been exciting to watch its editorial content grow both in breadth and scope. Theresa and I very much want the magazine to continue to be a conduit for many voices. So if ever you've toyed with the idea of writing about something Ridgeback related, whether serious or silly, I'm eager to hear from you. You don't have to be a published writer, or a grammar maven: That's my job. You just have to be passionate about the breed and have something to say about it - I think that describes most of us!

New & Improved Features:

• A lush new wide size -- 9 1/8" wide  x 11" high -- at no extra cost to you.

• We have also expanded our judges list to over 325 judges.

• And we are continuing the upgrades and freebies that make the Ridgeback Register the best bargain for your advertising dollar: Additional photos, screens, reverses and bleeds are FREE.

• As always, professional ad design is included in the cost of the advertisements.

• Back by popular demand: 2-Color Advertising. Can't afford full color, but don't want plain black and white? This is the answer. Check out the rates page for more information.

But there's one area where we think more is less, and that's advertising rates. Though we are increasing the dimensions of the magazine and widening the circulation to include an expanded, up-to-the-minute roster of judges licensed to judge our breed, our advertising rates are NOT increasing. Always lower than any other, our rates will stay that way for 2006.

Always lower than any other, our rates are simply the best price in town.
